Top Three Things to do in Rovinj

One of the most photographed islet towns in Croatia, Rovinj has a charming fairy-tale appeal and boasts of some of the most dramatic sunsets in the world. Colorful cobblestone pavements, Italian buildings, heritage sites, and the breathtaking Adriatic Sea in the backdrop make Rovinj a popular travel destination. Read on to know the three best travel experiences you shouldn't miss in Rovinj: #1. Stroll about the Old Town.

The Old Town of Rovinj comprises of tiny cobbled alleyways with incredible architectural delights. Immediately as you enter the car-free Old Town, you come across the impressive Balbi's Arch from 1679. St. Euphemia Parish Church, which is a baroque-style church with a pretty bell tower, is a popular tourist landmark in the Old Town. The church campanile is the tallest in Istria, and you are rewarded with panoramic views of the town and the Adriatic Sea after you climb to the top. Other notable places of interest are: the Town Hall building, the artistic Grisia Street where local artistes flaunt their work, and the Spacio, an antique fishermen's tavern. #2.

Visit the Batana and the Rovinj Heritage Museum. Batana refers to the traditional wooden boat used by the Croatians to fish in the medieval times. The Batana Museum has a collection of the various batana boats from the olden days, replete with traditional fishing equipment, art, songs and dances. In the summer, it is possible for visitors to ride on a batana into the ocean! The Rovinj Heritage Museum is a part of the Old Town, but deserves special mention on account of its rich and impressive exhibits that range from paintings, contemporary art works, rare books and manuscripts, and a few archaeological collectibles. #3. Ride a bike along the coast. Biking along the beautiful Rovinj coastline is a wonderful way to relax, rejuvenate and bask in the glory of the captivating Istrian countryside. You can easily rent or buy bikes and explore trails such as the Saint Euphemia Trail, Saint Thomas Trail, Rovinj Trail, and Captain Morgan Trail along the coast.

There are a few spots where you could park your bikes and dive right into the Adriatic to enjoy a cool swim. Other activities you should look out for are: rock climbing at Dvigrad and Limski Canal, not far away from Rovinj, shopping for trinkets and fresh food at the local markets, and scuba diving to the bottom of the Baron Gautsch wreck.
